2022 Santa Lucia Highlands Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir
2022 Pinot Noir
94 Points
"The 2022 Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard is so heady, marrying pure, ultra-ripe fruit with vivacious energy and spirited drive. Tannins are right up front, and toasty French oak stands ready, but this feels complete, even if it sits on the pushed end of the spectrum. Kirsch, and pomegranate, cinnamon, clove and new leather lends tons of intrigue. This is a sexy expression of Garys’."
About This Wine
Garys’ Vineyard has been an excellent source of Pinot Noir and features the Pisoni Selection of Pinot Noir, a suitcase clone from Burgundy. Two sections from varying elevations provide nuanced differences that provide a more dynamic palate profile and layered flavors. The 2022 growing season in Garys’ Vineyard began with a slightly later than usual bud break, with a bloom period that was warm and dry, which promoted even fruit set. The “main event,” was a prolonged heat wave that began on Labor Day Weekend and lasted for several days. However, the cooling effect of the deep waters of the adjacent Monterey Bay allowed the fruit to chill, promoting freshness and balance. Dark cherry, raspberry and violets lead the way on the aromatic profile, with the palate bursting with blackberry pie, licorice, and cracked pepper.
