"The 2022 Pinot Noir Sierra Mar Vineyard is burly and rough-hewn, with a forceful kick of tannins. Luckily, there’s enough pure fruit and energetic acidity to support it. Lavender, thyme and pomegranate add lift and complexity, finishing with a dusty, cocoa-powder-like grip. This is nicely done, if a hair imposing. That said, the 2022 feels like the kind of wine Sierra Mar wants to make. Give it a year to settle down."
About This Wine
Perched high on a windy, sandy, rocky outcropping in the Southern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands, Sierra Mar produced a lively, dark fruited Pinot Noir in 2022. An intriguing clonal mix of 23, 777 and Pisoni Selection make for a Pinot Noir scented with black plum, licorice, and sandalwood. Once sipped, flavors of black cherry, blackberry paste, and mocha carry through the finish – a Pinot Noir that is equally dark fruited, yet light on its feet.
